The Aesthetics of Nature and Space-Time in East Asia

This lecture traces the evolution of Chinese landscape painting while exploring how generations of scholars perceived nature and expressed it through art. Beginning with richly colored landscapes of the early dynasties, moving through the expressive world of ink landscapes, and culminating in artistic traditions that embraced real landscapes as reflections of the mind, we will journey through the changing aesthetics of nature, space, and time in East Asian art.
